This workshop will investigate a limited range of plant sources and a wide range of mordants and treatments to expand the color possibilities. We’ll work with various fabric types, creating swatches of different fibers for your color library.  Working with natural dyes is like making soup; we’ll be standing and stirring our hot dye vats for most of the class. Once the desired color has been achieved, the rinsing begins. Members can leave their rinsed fibers to drip-dry overnight.  No prerequisites. Instructor Julia March Crocetto, MFA, began her dyeing journey in 2005, when she desired more color options in her fabric stash. Since then, she’s been teaching workshops in a wide range of fiber media and dye types and loves helping people solve their color challenges. Little Houses for Little Hands! Cost: $15 for one child, $25 for two children, $35 for three children. **register online and pay at the door!** This 2-hour workshop is especially for children ages 5 and older (ages 5-13 must be accompanied by an adult).  We will build miniature houses using extruded clay and your child’s imagination. The completed houses can be taken home once they are fired in the kiln (they will be ready for pickup on 09/29/26). You can paint them at home using acrylic paints of your choice. The first in a three-part series, this session will introduce intaglio with drypoint and "faux mezzotint". This session is focused on preparing a plate or two for printing at a later date. We'll explore the image and ways of transferring it, and practice inscribing the plexiglass plate with lines. We’ll discuss paper options as part of the design process. Learn the lingo, make an awl, play with paper, and make a *cahier* journal with optional pockets. Materials are provided; feel free to bring paste paper or other fun paper for a cover. Prerequisites: No experience needed. Dexterity is needed for poking holes, handling a needle safely, managing thread, and keeping paper organized. What does “prepared for dyeing” mean? Is it good enough? What is scouring and why is it important? Learn how to test your fibers to see if they are ready to dye and how to decide which process to use if they’re not. Scouring fibers can be an important first step for any kind of dyeing; no matter your fiber or dye interest, this workshop will help you prep like a pro. We’ll fire up the stock pots and brew up some concoctions! Scouring most fibers is like making soup; we’ll be standing and stirring hot pots for long periods. Rinsing and drying are important steps; we’ll discuss options for different fiber types. Members can leave their rinsed fibers to drip-dry overnight. Bring something to scour – a thrifted shirt, a hank of yarn, a yard or two of fabric, silk scarves, or such.  Prerequisites: No dyeing or fiber experience needed. Dexterity: able to grasp a stick and reach over a vessel of hot liquid. Celebrate the bounty of the season with botanical printing! Also called "eco-printing" or "bundle dyeing", this simple process enables you to make "prints" with fresh or dried flowers and leaves. We'll have some plant material available and encourage you to bring your own. Bring your own fabric or purchase mordanted fabric when you arrive (cotton fabric, bandanas, and silk scarves). We recommend the Prepare to Dye! workshop to scour your fabric the day before. We'll have different mordant baths to choose from so you can experiment with outcomes. You'll take home your projects with instructions for finishing at home; members can return the next day to complete the process. Prerequisites: no experience necessary. Bring your favorite clay (no grog preferred but not necessary) – 3 lb (if no lid) or 4lb (if you want a lid) – for an afternoon of learning how to use the slab roller, using stamps, and making your puff pot. We will make the puff pot on Saturday. If you want a lid, come back on Sunday to complete that portion. Add a handle later to convert the pot to a mug. The workshop includes slab roller orientation, rolling out your clay, stamping and making your puff pot, and (if desired) making the lid. Any finishing touches (handle, smoothing joints, etc.) can be accomplished outside of workshop time.]]>

Learn basic color theory that will enable you to over dye existing colors or start fresh. Bring inspiration photos or samples to inspire your own color mixture. This workshop provides training for mixing acid dyes for use on protein fibers (silk, wool). We’ll work with yarn as well as cloth, discussing how to prepare these fibers for dyeing and how to keep them from tangling or felting. You’ll take home silk cloth, wool cloth, and wool yarn as well as swatches from every vat to start your color library.
